POSITION SUMMARY
The Authority is currently recruiting a Police Investigator to join Georgia World Congress Center. The Police Investigator performs duties as the agency’s primary Criminal and Non-criminal Case Investigator. This position conducts preliminary and supplementary investigation of crimes, interviewing victims, complainants, witnesses and suspects; secures and investigates crime scene(s); identifies, collects, and preserves physical evidence, prepares reports; and testifies in court.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Completes accident and incident reports and compiles supporting documentation in order to document and explain facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.
- Processes records and reports such that files are maintained in an orderly fashion and information can be retrieved and disseminated in an efficient manner.
- Interacts with employees, clients and citizens in order to respond to inquiries and complaints, provide advice on proceeding and criminal matters, refer to appropriate public and social services, and to establish rapport and trust.
- Investigates crimes; interviews suspects, victims and witnesses involved in criminal cases; documents cases with photographs, video tapes, summary lists, evidence documentation, labeling evidence, medical records, psychological data, audiotape interviews and criminal background checks.
- Obtains arrest and search warrants from judicial authorities by reviewing facts and evidence resulting from the investigation of a criminal incident
- Maintains attendance and punctuality within customary tolerances for this position.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull extremely heavy objects over 200 pounds such as in the event of chasing or subduing a suspect resisting arrest.

- Knowledge of local, state and federal laws, departmental policies and procedures, and standard operating procedures.
- Knowledge of local judicial system, and operations and procedures for criminal prosecution.
- Knowledge of legal limitations of police officers’ authority and the limits and requirements in use of force.
- Knowledge of effective principles and practices of management and administration.
- Knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of interviewing and interrogating suspects, victims and witnesses.
- Knowledge of defensive tactics to protect self and others; proper arrest and suspect apprehension techniques.
- Knowledge of physical characteristics of the precinct’s territory; cultural diversity of the people living and working within the precinct’s boundaries.
- Knowledge of crime patterns, potential problem areas, and prior offenders within jurisdictional boundaries.
- Knowledge of record keeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- 4 year college degree preferred
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License
- Georgia POST Peace Officer Certification
- Criminal Investigation Fundamentals Course (or equivalent) preferred
- 2 years police or investigative experience
- Experience assigned to a criminal investigation unit is preferred

Tasks include but are limited to working around moving parts, vehicles, equipment, carts, and materials handling, where extremely heightened awareness to surroundings and environment is essential in the preservation of life and property. Standard body gear and equipment applies in the preservation of life and property, as does special equipment based on assignment including, but not limited to, various types of body armor and safety gear.
