What we're looking for:

Acumera is a leader in providing converged infrastructure solutions to the retail and hospitality industry. Our customers are some of the largest and best known global store, restaurant, and hospitality brands. Our solution is built on a cutting edge Linux based virtualization stack that features total management through a devops driven infrastructure. We design, develop, and maintain a software stack that includes a core virtualization solution built on Debian Linux with OpenVZ, LXC, and KVM, with supporting management code built in Puppet and Ruby. Our back-end management environment includes Ruby Rails, and Redis components. The Junior Linux Systems Engineer performs production systems integration work involving Linux, networking, open source tools, and automation to implement our solutions. This position is open to local Texas or Florida candidates. We have offices located in Austin, Texas and Tallahassee, Florida. This role requires hybrid flexibility with 2-3 days a week onsite. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with clients or project manager to integrate the Redbox solution into their environment for their needs.
  • Update any additional security settings for the enterprise firewalls
  • Demonstrate best-practice knowledge and apply skills to deliver an effective solution specific to client needs.
  • Interface with development team on projects for clients as well as QA.
  • Some occasional travel to client sites may be required

Qualifications

  • Basic familiarity with production environments, ideally small to medium scale, and a passion for learning in larger environments.
  • Foundational knowledge of Linux systems and services, with exposure to network services (e.g., iptables, bind, etc.).
  • Basic scripting skills (bash or Python preferred) and a strong willingness to learn and develop systems automation skills.
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems is a plus, but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well with others and effectively convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve basic problems quickly and a desire to expand automation skills.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience in Linux Systems Administration (professional or internship experience counts).
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, firewalls, and VPNs, with a desire to deepen networking knowledge.
  • Exposure to cloud environments like AWS is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Interest in systems automation tools like Puppet, Ansible, or Chef, with some hands-on experience a plus.
  • Awareness of security basics and best practices; familiarity with security tools and protocols a bonus.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment.
  • Curiosity about system tuning and virtualization; hands-on experience with virtualization tools like VirtualBox or familiarity with KVM is helpful.
  • Must have the ability to work onsite 3 days a week.
