Job Summary:

The Prep Cook performs basic cooking duties, monitors stock levels, and takes on culinary tasks as they arise. The right person for this position will be hard-working and responsible for setting up workstations in the kitchen and preparing ingredients for the cooking process.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Setting up and sanitizing work stations.
  • Follows the Daily Prep List to start each shift.
  • Preparing cooking ingredients to exactly as outlined for each dish.
  • Preparing simple dishes, such as entrees or salads.
  • Ensuring all food items are properly stored and easily accessible.
  • Maintaining a clean, orderly, and sanitized kitchen.
  • Closes the kitchen properly and follows the closing checklist for kitchen stations. Assists others in closing the kitchen.
  • Attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement.
  • Promptly reports equipment, food quality problems and product shortages to Kitchen Manager.
  • Performs repetitive meal prep tasks exactly as outlined by the recipe cards each and every time.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or manager-on-duty.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Manual dexterity to operate cooking tools such as knives.
  • Strong team working and communication skills.
  • Performs repetitive tasks without deviation.
  • Physical endurance to work long shifts in a busy environment.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in a stressful, fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of I year of experience in kitchen preparation and cooking of similar style restaurant.
  • At least 6 months experience in a similar capacity.
  • Culinary school training would be advantageous.
  • Experience as a prep cook may be advantageous.
Physical Requirements: 
  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours).
