2024-2025 Part-Time Internship Opportunity (Dietetics Nutrition Education)

15 Hours/Week, 25 Weeks

 

Position Summary

This internship provides hands-on experience delivering impactful nutrition education to youth in Dayton Public Schools, with a focus on food security, cultural appreciation, and self-sufficiency. Interns will work closely with elementary and middle school students through interactive cooking classes, nutrition lessons, and gardening projects.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead nutrition and cooking classes for students ages 6-15, adapting lessons to age groups.
  • Collaborate with students on cultural and thematic recipes, ensuring they learn practical cooking skills.
  • Co-teach classes with support from experienced staff, gradually transitioning to independent leadership.
  • Prepare healthy meals and snacks for students during classes and events, emphasizing food security.
  • Facilitate monthly salad bars featuring culturally themed menus.
  • Integrate gardening and sustainability education, using produce grown in school gardens and hoop houses.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities, lesson plans, and program impacts.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field.
  • Passion for community nutrition, education, and working with diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Creativity in lesson planning and the ability to adapt teaching methods for different age groups.
  • Basic cooking skills and knowledge of nutrition science.
