Position Summary
This internship provides hands-on experience delivering impactful nutrition education to youth in Dayton Public Schools, with a focus on food security, cultural appreciation, and self-sufficiency. Interns will work closely with elementary and middle school students through interactive cooking classes, nutrition lessons, and gardening projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and lead nutrition and cooking classes for students ages 6-15, adapting lessons to age groups.
- Collaborate with students on cultural and thematic recipes, ensuring they learn practical cooking skills.
- Co-teach classes with support from experienced staff, gradually transitioning to independent leadership.
- Prepare healthy meals and snacks for students during classes and events, emphasizing food security.
- Facilitate monthly salad bars featuring culturally themed menus.
- Integrate gardening and sustainability education, using produce grown in school gardens and hoop houses.
- Maintain accurate records of activities, lesson plans, and program impacts.
