Position Summary:

The Healthcare Navigator is responsible for working with individuals who have a substance use disorder by securing state or private insurance to achieve RCORP-Impact related goals and meet program requirements.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assesses the resource needs of program participants.
  • Helps enroll individuals into health insurance to maximize opportunities to bill for services.
  • Assists with post-enrollment activities, such as requesting pre-authorization for services, appealing coverage decisions, etc.
  • Participates monthly in learning collaborative meetings.
  • Acts as advocate on behalf of assigned program participants.
  • Participates in clinical staffing decisions regarding the participant’s resources and their need for additional resources.
  • Provides input in the patient’s treatment needs and dispositions.
  • Assists other WestCare staff as needed to promote cooperation and portray a professional image to the community.
  • Embraces and embodies the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision, and goals of WestCare Kentucky.
  • Performs other reasonable duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

 

Certifications/Licensures:

  • Alcohol and Drug Registration and actively pursuing Certification, in good standing by an agency approved and recognized by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is required at time of hire; Preference will be given to those candidates who are currently Certified;
  • Valid Kentucky driver’s license

 

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a degree in Healthcare Management, Social Work, or a related field.  

 

Experience and Competencies:

  • Two (2) years of experience in providing healthcare services to persons with alcohol and/or drug problems is preferred;
  • Intake and assessment experience is preferred;
  • Marketing and/or sales experience preferred;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion;
  • Ability to work well in a team environment;
  • Adherence to the highest standard of ethical conduct, especially to standards governing confidentiality;
  • Professional appearance and demeanor;
  • Must be culturally/linguistically sensitive to populations served;
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain WestCare’s vehicle insurance is required;
  • CPR Certification, First Aid Certification and an annual Tuberculosis test.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily performed in an office or residential treatment setting; and
  • Some outdoor activities may be required.
