Description

Summary:  The Driver is responsible for providing efficient, cost-effective, safe transportation services for disadvantaged persons.

Illustrative Duties and Performance Responsibilities:

The duties of the Driver position include the following, as well as performance of other work related duties as assigned:

  1. Gain and maintain familiarity with driving procedures, defensive driving skills and all certifications and examinations as required by law and by organizational policy
  2. Drive vans on scheduled and unscheduled trips as assigned by the supervisor.
  3. Maintain a safe driving record and report all moving violations to supervisor irrespective of whether they occurred on duty or not
  4. Assure that all passengers are properly restrained during transit and that all items are securely stowed at all times during transit
  5. Provide appropriate supervision, support and direction to passengers in the even of an accident, vehicle fire, passenger injury, or any untoward incident.  Comply with all reporting procedures in the event of such incident, including vehicle accidents.
  6. Maintain a safe and comfortable environment aboard vehicles at all times
  7. Provide loading and unloading assistance to all passengers requiring such support.  Such assistance may be verbal or physical
  8. Knowledgeable about and operate wheel chair lifts and ramps
  9. Maintain appropriate confidentiality about passengers in accordance with regulations and organizational policy.
  10. Keep cell phone on and assessable at all times while operating Agency vehicle
  11. Conduct daily inspections of vehicles and record maintenance in vehicle log
  12. Maintain fuel level in van by completely filling at the end of every afternoon shift or as needed
  13. Report any mechanical problems to Lead Driver, and/or Transportation Director immediately
  14. Ensures that Agency vehicles are cleaned inside and out on a regular basis
  15. Understanding of HIPAA, Professional Ethics, Consumer Rights and Confidentiality
  16. Demonstrates a high degree of dependability.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Experience:
    • Five years driving experience preferred
  • Language Skills:
  • Mathematical Skills:
    • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    • HIV/AIDs 104 Basic Education
    • Valid CPR Certification
    • 20 hours of continuing education required annually
    • Active CDL Driver’s License preferred
    • 2 hour De-escalation course or training associated with licensed practitioner of the health arts
    • Infection Control- bi-annual training requirement
  • Reasoning Ability:
    • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
    • Understands, communicates (both verbally and in writing), and collaborates effectively and with precision, given the time constraints of each task.
  • Other Skills and Abilities:
    • Ability to pass transportation trainings
    • Ability to meet agency insurance requirements for driving an agency vehicle
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to provide an Affidavit of Good Moral Character
    • Must have reliable transportation to travel throughout the county.
    • Must have availability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
    • Clearance in Pre-Employment Drug Testing and Criminal Records Checks, as required.
    • Possesses sufficient means of independent mobility.
    • Familiarity with Monroe County
  • Level of access to PHI:  Level 3
    • Level 3 – Limited access to record content. Staff may access specific PHI that is clinically/administratively appropriate but may not access the entire record.
  • Level of access to Facility:
    • P key, driver’s keys
  • Safety Sensitivity Level:
    • Level 3 – Low Risk (PGC employees)
  • Physical Demands: Occasionally= 1-33% of time performing task
  • Work Environment
    • Gloves are worn when cleaning.
    • Gloves are worn when using housekeeping and floor care products
    • Eye goggles are worn when pouring housekeeping and floor product
    • Gloves, mask, gown, eye goggles are used for Code Strong as required for the situation
    • Appropriate PPE will be worn as required by any chemical or exposure situation
