Illinois College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Sociology and Criminal Justice department with a specialty in Criminology and/or Justice Studies to begin in Fall 2025.
The primary responsibilities include teaching courses in Criminology, and Social Control/Prisons, as well as special topics courses based on the candidate’s expertise. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching criminology with a strong theoretical foundation and addressing issues of diversity throughout the criminal justice system from a social science perspective. Additionally, we seek candidates with expertise and/or interest in leading an interdisciplinary program, and making connections with the larger community. Teaching research methodology would also be desirable. The successful candidate will advise and mentor undergraduate students, particularly those preparing for careers in criminology and criminal justice. Engaging in research with students and contributing to the department’s growing Criminal Justice program are also key components of this role. Participation in departmental, college, and community service is expected. Doctorate or ABD strongly preferred; master’s degree considered with strong experience.
