What are we looking for in a Systems Administrator?
The System Administrator for our Information Services team uses systems analysis and software application expertise to determine hardware, software or system function specifications. Serves as a liaison with external partners to ensure operational specifications are compatible when needed to facilitate exchange of electronic information. Maintains, upgrades and tests software. Performs software and limited hardware troubleshooting to ensure functional specifications of applications or systems are meeting needs.  Develops standards and procedures for and performs system backups and recovery.    

Systems Administrator duties may include:

  • Provides system support for operating system, microcomputer applications, email and hardware questions and utilization. Installs new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves software related problems.
  • Develops and oversees the maintenance of WAN (wide area network), its functional specifications, as well as end-user needs
  • Develops system maintenance procedures, including data archiving and software upgrades standards; ensures systems are operating according to standards. Refines the methodology and develops schedules for archiving database records.  Coordinates and performs actual archiving process. Performs system backups and recovery. Maintains data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity.   
  • Develops software utilities programs and subroutines, which enhance utilization of hardware using scripting and other programming tools.
  • Using systems analysis techniques and procedures, and in consultation with end-users, recommends and evaluates applications, both hardware and software, for implementation into systems.
  • Serves as the primary contact for implementation and maintenance of electronic reporting systems including, but not limited to DSHS, Medicare, Target and other various billing systems. Determines system specifications to ensure compatible functionality with external systems as required.  If necessary, reprogram, modify computer programs or otherwise recommend changes to applications and systems to ensure billings can be distributed and payments can be received  electronically.
  • Documents hardware configuration information and system performance data.  Ensures systems are maintained per standards.
  • Exhibits strong working knowledge of internal accounting principles, computer systems and operating systems.
  • Serves as backup representative with hardware and software vendors, and line carriers.  Negotiates modifications, prices, options on behalf of agency.
  • Answers Help desk calls as a backup as per internal procedures.
  • Installs and maintains network Video Conferencing system.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
  • Deep knowledge and understanding about network and computer security
  • In-depth knowledge of virtualization environments
  • Five years of related experience or training
