CULTURE: 

A Float Medical Assistant is a healthcare professional who provides versatile support across multiple medical departments or locations within a healthcare organization. Their primary role is to cover for other medical assistants during absences, high patient volumes, or staffing shortages. This requires adaptability and competence in handling a variety of clinical and administrative tasks.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS: 

  1. Clinical Support:

    • Prepare examination rooms and assist physicians with patient exams and procedures.
    • Take vital signs, medical histories, and patient information.
    • Administer medications or injections as directed by physicians.
    • Perform basic lab tests and ensure accurate specimen handling.
  2. Administrative Support:

    • Schedule appointments, verify patient insurance, and manage patient records.
    • Assist in patient check-in and check-out processes.
    • Handle patient communications and follow-up care instructions.
  3. Flexibility & Adaptability:

    • Quickly learn new workflows, EMR systems, and clinical protocols in different departments.
    • Maintain professional communication and teamwork across varied clinical settings.
  4. Quality 

    • Participate in quality improvement programs

Float Medical Assistants are crucial in maintaining operational efficiency and ensuring continuity of care, adapting to the needs of diverse medical teams and patient populations.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) or poses a license as a CNA or EMT. 
  • Proficiency in clinical procedures and medical terminology.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High degree of adaptability, organization, and the ability to work independently
  •  Requires current registration as a licensed practical nurse in the State of Colorado, current BLS certification.

MELISSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL:

Melissa Memorial Hospital is a 15-bed critical access hospital, located in Holyoke, Colorado. While being “rural” we are equipped for any situation. It is a model rural hospital with 1 operating room, surgical procedure room, 4 bay emergency room, and radiology including 64-slice CT scanner and mammography, MRI, ECHO, and Nuclear Medicine, along with other ancillary services. The hospital is co-located with a family practice clinic and retail pharmacy services. Other services include chemotherapy, general & orthopedic surgery, podiatry, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, progressive rehab services, and wound care. MMH operates a full-time EMS service and maintains a 24/7 AirLife Helicopter base.
