Job Summary:

The Director of Loan Review will be responsible for managing the independent loan review function for the Bank and providing objective evaluations of the overall credit quality of the commercial portfolio, compliance with policies and procedures. The Director of Loan Review, along with assigned staff, will conduct reviews of individual loans and borrowing relationships within the Bank’s commercial and consumer loan portfolio to achieve this objective.  The role will also be responsible for coordinating third party loan review resources to ensure the bank’s loan review strategy and portfolio coverage goals are achieved.

Primary Responsibilities:

The duties listed below are some of the duties that may be assigned and may not include all responsibilities that the person in this role may be asked to perform.  Incumbent may be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Develops the Bank’s overall loan review strategy
  • Responsible for the oversight of the external and internal loan review for the Bank.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of the Bank’s loan portfolio.
  • Objectively assess and evaluate the quality of lending practices against the Bank’s credit policies, regulatory guidelines, and generally accepted industry practices.
  • Assist in the Bank’s commitment to sound credit practices.
  • Provide assurance that the Bank’s risk ratings are accurate and adjusted timely, supporting the veracity of the loan loss reserve.
  • Focus on new loan originations to identify emerging trends and structural migration within the loan portfolio.
  • Interact and communicate with Bank Management and lending personnel to foster a risk minded credit culture.
  • Support management in identifying weaknesses or operational inefficiencies that could impair the risk management practices of the Bank.
  • Report to the Audit and Risk Committee an objective assessment of the credit quality and ongoing portfolio management.
  • Collaborate with relationship managers, unit leadership, and loan supervision to evaluate credit administration practices and assess portfolio quality.
  • Knowledge of all federal and state banking regulations pertaining to lending and commercial compliance, including fair lending laws
  • Plans, organizes, and provides oversight and execution of exam engagements across various lending business lines.
  • Effectively communicate exam findings with divisional leaders and loan supervisors.
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manages team of 3-4 employees

Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in banking, a Federal regulatory agency, or a state banking commission with an emphasis in commercial and business credit administration and risk management.
  • CECL experience, a plus
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently
  • Organized and detailed
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities, and work well under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of commercial lending practices, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to understand Bank policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Ability to communicate positively and effectively one-on-one and in small group meetings or presentations
  • Ability to understand and/or convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately and quickly if necessary
  • Ability to think and act independently within guidelines and limitations of Bank policy and assigned personal authority
  • Strong objectivity, interpersonal, communication and listening skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships across all levels of the organization
  • Exceptional communication and decision making skills
  • Constructive approach in dealing with conflict; ability to mediate conflict in professional manner to settle disputes and win concessions without damaging relationships

Computer and Office Equipment Skills:

  • Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
