As a senior member of the finance Team, the Controller is personally responsible for providing assistance in governance over the company’s accounting records. The Controller is to ensure that the Company’s financial statements are maintained and reported in accordance with US GAAP, both on a monthly and annual basis, in accordance with the best practices and Government regulatory requirements. The Controller will assist in overseeing the Company’s financial processes, including revenue recognition, general accounting, accounts payable, statutory reporting, and taxes. In order to achieve this, the incumbent will manage the accounting function, which involves planning and coordinating staff assignments and workloads, while developing the team to ensure cross training and a smooth workflow exist.

Principal Responsibilities

  • To direct the preparation of a timely, complete and accurate set of financial statements in accordance with US GAAP and other related reports reflecting all the firm’s activities in a manner commensurate with the relevant legislation and regulation and subject to internal guidelines set from time to time by the Board of Directors. Due to extensive regulatory oversight, there is no tolerance for internal control deficiencies or inaccuracy of financial reporting information.
  • To implement continuous systems and financial audit procedures to monitor compliance to US GAAP and government regulatory requirements and to incorporate robust controls over processes and systems and automate where possible. 
  • To assist with writing, reviewing and maintain the company’s accounting policies, procedures and controls based on best accounting practice, aligning with US GAAP.
  • To ensure adequate procedures and supervision over the preparation of various tax returns including federal and state income taxes.
  • To alert the President of any irregularity, lack of compliance, lack of adherence and potential or actual problems associated with financial systems, financial operations, financing plans, accounting , audits, budgets and any other matter of a financial nature
  • To collaborate and coordinate the activities of external auditors.
  • To organize, lead, motivate, coach, develop, cross-train and retain a motivated accounting team that can work to high standards and maintain high efficiency and effectiveness of staff as well as a flexible and scalable structure. To ensure the accounting team understands the finance department’s priorities and has clarity around individual accountability.

Specific responsibilities include (Other duties may be assigned):

  • Act as a senior member of the finance team with joint responsibility with fellow members for the good governance of the Company.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of revenues and expenses.
  • Manage Payroll processing domestically and internationally.
  • Oversee the AP and Expense reimbursement process ensuring prompt and accurate payments of payables.
  • Oversee the AR and the collection process ensuring prompt and accurate invoicing, posting of invoices and cash receipts.
  • Prepare or review accurate accruals at period end, ensuring appropriate supporting documentation is available and filed centrally.
  • Direct the monthly general ledger close process including maintenance of a monthly checklist as well as generation, reconciliation and analysis of corporate accounting reports.
  • Work with the Financial Planning and Analysis representative as well as Sr. Finance Director to support operations and provide timely reporting internally and externally.
  • Establish and implement accounting policies, procedures and reporting for the organization to ensure accurate and consist financial reporting.  Monitor developments at standard setters (FASB, SEC) to ensure proper accounting positions are adopted and maintained.
  • Monitor and maintain financial systems, procedures, and controls to ensure data quality and security are maintained to a high standard.
  • Work closely with the business to ensure that accounting procedures are followed at all times and that adequate information is provided (such as invoices, revenue recognition, new fixed asset support etc.) in a timely manner to ensure proper and timely recording of related activity.
  • Collaborate with other members of the finance team and understand their core function and business requirements to resolve any accounting/reporting issues.
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of tax returns as well as estimated payments.
  • Work with external auditors to plan and coordinate the annual audits. 
  • Responsible for the completeness and integrity of all external financial reporting, including all reports issued by the external auditors, online reporting and filings with regulatory bodies and other external reporting. 
  • Coordinate financial examinations by regulatory authorities.
  • Participate with senior management in activities involving potential investors and lenders or other strategic external organizations.
  • Manage supervisory personnel and staff; prioritize and allocate work and provide guidance and technical assistance to personnel. Review reports and otherwise ensure the integrity of information prepared or issued by the accounting team. 

 

Leadership Responsibility

  • Provide responsive, competent service and information internally and externally.
  • Ensure the professional development of staff.  Develop and implement a goal setting process to ensure compliance with objectives of the Finance function.
  • Relationships
  • Maintain good working professional relationships with external auditors, the banks, vendors and consultants. 
  • Financial leadership within Wavestream/Gilat
  • Datapath Leadership: Board of Directors, Management
  • Internal business partners, primarily within sales, legal/compliance, operations and systems. 
  • External relationships with external auditors, banks, regulators and various vendors.

Qualifications

  • A committed finance professional, who is commercially astute and understands the reality of practical business management.
  • It is essential that the Controller is fully conversant with US GAAP, the requirements of corporate governance and financial reporting standards.
  • Minimum of 10 years prior experience at the Controller level or equivalent within a government contract environment. Government contracting, Federal Contracts, DFAS/DCMA audit, accounting system compliance with fixed price and cost-plus contracts experience required.
  • Solid knowledge of Project accounting in manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Experience in maintaining and supervising financial systems, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with accounting and regulatory requirements.
  • The Controller must possess very strong Excel technical abilities and have experience in the use of general ledger and ERP systems, specifically Cost Point.
  • The Controller must be able to effectively communicate both written and verbal, at all levels, both internally and externally of the business and have the ability to explain and discuss financial data with non-financial people in a clear and concise way. Developing key relationships with the other decision makers in the business such as budget holders is essential. These people rely on the incumbent to provide them with accurate accounting information and various analytical data on time. In addition, they will look to the Controller to provide financial advice and guidance on how to account for specific financial transactions, specifically revenue recognition.
  • The Controller must foster an environment of open communication within the department.
  • The Controller must be able to organize both themselves and subordinates, prioritize multiple work streams, tackle complex challenges and perform to a high standard while working towards delivery on various business priorities and deadlines. The Controller will also represent the finance team on company projects. As such, they must have the ability to organize and prioritize their workload and that of their subordinates in order to meet the demands placed upon them while at all times ensuring best practices and high standards are maintained.

Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Billing, Payroll, General Accounting, and Cost Accounting.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • CPA license preferred.
