DataPath, Inc. is seeking a Project Accountant

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Corporate Controller, the Project Accountant will be responsible for all aspects of project accounting, revenue recognition, project costing, financial analysis, and related tasks associated with projects and programs. Includes but not limited to various financial aspects associated with government contracting projects and related programs implementation.

The Project Accountant performs assigned financial and general accounting functions including but not limited to project setup, reconciliation, project accounting & budgeting, project cost & revenue analysis, and support to management as they relate to the projects and programs. Coordinates with respective Departments to ensure synchronization of efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages projects from an accounting perspective, verifying at all times that project setup, revenue recognition, costs, percent complete, backlog, and forecasting are accurate.
  • Reads contracts and understands contract terms related to project setup and accounting.
  • Prepares project reports for analysis and forecasting purposes.
  • Prepares supporting schedules, gathers information, and provides documents for external auditors.
  • Responsible for maintenance of financial records for projects and programs.
  • Review & manage subcontractor project invoices in accordance with contract terms.
  • Prepare project cost, revenue, unbilled/unearned reconciliations, and analyses.
  • Work with Corporate Controller to establish sound internal controls and effective/efficient processes and procedures around project accounting.
  • Support both internal and external audits.
  • Provide accounting and financial support to management, including financial reports and account projections/forecasts and analyses.
  • Attend meetings to gather, understand, document and respond to internal and external requirements; interact with respective internal departments, and external vendors and/or contractors.
  • Audit financial transactions and document accounting control procedures.
  • Complete special projects as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

Requires a bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 4 to 5 years of work experience, preferably in government contracting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of procedures and requirements for managing projects from an accounting perspective.
  • Extensive project accounting in ERP systems, especially Deltek Costpoint.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill in using Excel for data analysis and forecasting.
  • Overall accounting knowledge of general ledger, accounts payable, billing and accounts receivable, and all project cost elements.
  • Familiarity with relevant federal, state, and local laws, policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency in principles of accepted accounting practices, planning, organizing, and establishing priorities.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Takes initiative to resolve issues and gather information
