Background on Scenic Hudson’s River Cities Program:
The River Cities Program works alongside community members and local governments to create community-based plans that improve access to nature in Kingston, Newburgh, and Poughkeepsie. Our practice is rooted in enhancing urban ecosystems, promoting equity, and creating vibrant public spaces that support social and ecological wellbeing. We acknowledge and seek to redress the disproportionate impacts that historic and current racialized land use practices and the dual climate and biodiversity crises have on People of Color and lower wealth communities. We are an interdisciplinary team that works collaboratively with others within Scenic Hudson to combine technical skills with community knowledge and expertise to increase equitable access to nature and parks in these three cities.
