Counselor Support Staff

 JOB SUMMARY

This individual, supervised by the Associate Camp Director or designated Unit Head, assists to campers and counselors who need extra support during camp. The main role of this staff member is to help campers who may have special needs and helping coach counselors for ways to help campers.

PRE-CAMP RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend pre-camp orientation
  • Attend Camp Open House before the 1st day of camp

CAMP RESPONSIBILITIES

Health and Safety

  • Maintaining appropriate staff to camper ratios at all times, including not leaving a Junior counselor alone to supervise whole group.
  • Actively supervising at all times.
  • Guide children and document significant behavioral events on a daily report form.
  • Report all injuries regardless of severity to Camp Health Director.

Duties

  • Provides help and assistance to campers and staff throughout camp day, especially during transitions, and changes throughout camp day
  • Create and implement behavior plans as needed
  • Observe and record behaviors as needed
  • Coach camp staff on how to create the most successful environment we can for our campers
  • Readily available to help as needed.
  • Comfortable working with children ages 3-15.
  • Form positive relationships with campers, co-workers, and parents.
  • Working together with co-counselors and camp supervisory team in a positive manner for the betterment of camp.
  • Maintain supplies and cleanliness of areas used.
  • Attend all weekly staff meetings.
  • Work Late nights and Overnights, as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or delegated by the Associate Camp Director, Unit Heads, or Senior Director of Camp and Summer Programs.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Experience working with children
  • Strong background in Special Educations preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods time,
  • Ability to bend at the waist, squat  and pick items off the floor
  • Ability to walk, hike, and  climb, long distances
  • Must have great eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and participate in camp activities;
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Competently participate in aquatics activities, including swimming
