Camp Health Director (Camp Nurse)

JOB SUMMARY

The main responsibility for this role is to oversee for the health and safety of the campers and camp staff; and acts as the Safety Officer/Advisor to the Camp Administration. This role is under the direct supervision of the Associate Camp Director with the assistance from the Senior Director of Camp and Summer Program.

 

PRE-CAMP RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend Pre-Camp Orientation and planning meetings.
  • Ensure all applicable medical forms and records are collected for campers before their first day of camp.
  • Pre-Camp meetings with families as needed.

CAMP RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises health and sanitation as Camp Chaverim & Camp Galgalim.
  • Maintains camper’s confidential medical history.
  • Oversees initial health screening of campers and daily health surveillance of camp occupants.
  • Handles health emergencies and injuries, including emergency preparedness and provision for professional health care.
  • Maintains camp’s daily medical log.
  • Reports required incidents to local health department within 24 hours.
  • Liaison with local medical personnel and emergency services as needed.
  • Inventory, maintain and order medical supplies and equipment.
  • Follows all protocols for medication administration including having appropriate forms, administering the medication as stated, storage of medication and logging all medication administered at camp
  • Creating first aid kits for camp groups and for off-sire field trips.
  • Parent communication, regarding health related issues, as needed.
  • Inform staff of specific camper health needs.
  • Checking-in late arriving campers and checking-out campers being picked up early.
  • Keeps attendance for camp; responsible each day for collecting group attendance records.
  • Main contact for parents’ reporting camper absence.
  • Communicating and assisting Camp Galgalim staff with illness and injury situations.
  • Keep Associate Camp Director and Unit Heads aware of all medical, health, safety, and sanitary issues.
  • Help support our summer staff (health and well-being).
  • Form positive relationships with children.
  • Starting at $28.00 per hour

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current NP, PA, RN, EMT, or LPN certification in New York State
  • Prior experience doing triage and being a first responder
  • Previous experience in a camp or school setting or working with children is desirable. 
  • Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Must be certified in Responding to Emergencies, First Aid, CPR, and AED as applies to Department of Health regulations
