Description

Provide up‑to‑date analysis and information on a variety of issues facing the business community. Aid in preparation and distribution/delivery of bill position letters, including, but not limited to, analyzing legislation, drafting correspondence, proofreading, formatting and delivery, as directed by Policy Advocates. Provide administrative support for Policy Advocates.

  • Set up and oversee meetings of the Advocates’ committees, coalitions and other groups as necessary.  Prepare meeting notices and agendas, track RSVPs, and coordinate arrangements with caterers, along with meeting set-up and take down. 
  • Maintain CalChamber committee rosters and labels.
  • Maintain legislative rosters.
  • Maintain Advocates’ calendars including scheduling of appointments.
  • Run daily legislative bill reports.
  • Aid in preparation and distribution/delivery of bill position letters, including, but not limited to, proofreading, formatting and delivery.
  • Analyze legislation as directed.
  • Assist in preparation of legal briefs and filing of legal papers, as directed.
  • Maintain legislative bill files, subject matter files, periodical files, and Advocates’ financial files, including annual archiving of files.
  • Reconcile financial statements and expense reports.
  • Research projects utilizing the Internet and state law library as directed.
  • Draft correspondence for Advocates as needed.
  • Read and route mail and other correspondence.
  • Answer Advocates phones. Retrieve messages from voicemail.
  • Assist at annual California Business Legislative Conference, Host Breakfast, legislative receptions and other Chamber events as needed.
  • Provide receptionist relief.
  • Assist in Board mailings when needed.
  • Order publications as needed.
  • Assist other policy assistants when needed.

Qualifications

  • Solid communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Windows, Word and Excel
  • Legislative and government experience desired
