Position: Maintenance Assistant

Department: Facility Maintenance

Reports to: MAAP Supervisor

Position Summary

The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for maintenance tasks in the building and external property and reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Hours: 12 hours per week, late afternoons/evenings

Major Duties & Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance and repairs in the building and exterior property.

• Present ideas and suggestions for improving the management and maintenance of the property as often as possible. When presenting a problem or offering constructive criticism, also present an alternative solution.

• Build positive relationships with youth and adults and serve as a role model with respect to demeanor, communication and behavior.

• Ensure that all program areas are safe and clean, and put away related equipment and supplies.

Additional Responsibilities

• Be alert to potential facility, equipment and maintenance personnel related problems, and provide verbal or written reports when indicated to the center director or other managerial personnel.

• As assigned by the center director, or when deemed necessary, call/attend meetings with staff or volunteers to assist in the proper collective maintenance of the facility.

• Interact with and maintain a formal relationship with staff and volunteers to keep lines of communication open to enable you to better understand and manage program/property needs.

• Perform other facility maintenance duties as assigned by the maintenance supervisor, program coordinator, and center director.

 

Qualifications

Skills & Knowledge

• A minimum of a high or vocational school diploma or G.E.D. Certifications in property maintenance or trades preferred.

• A minimum of three years professional paid work experience in a building maintenance, electrical work, plumbing, etc

Demonstrated skills and competency in facility maintenance and repairs, construction, and moderate plumbing and electrical work.

• Ability to assess, troubleshoot and clearly communicate facility related problems.

• Good communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to speak professionally to staff, members, parents, groups and community residents.

• Familiarity with office protocols involving dress, demeanor, record keeping, confidentiality, staff meetings, visitors, and employee use of supplies and equipment.

Salary: $17.00 Per Hour
