The Police Athletic League (PAL) is the largest independent youth organization in New York City that provides educational and recreational activities for children and young adults. PAL Inc. and The New York City Police Department work in partnership to provide communities with summer and after-school recreational and educational activities.

We are looking for a Family Assistant who will be responsible for the recruitment of children and families into the Early Learn Program, documenting all actions taken pertaining to outreach and continuous recruiting, and ensuring the classrooms are fully enrolled at all times.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Family Assistant is responsible for the recruitment of children and families into the Early Learn Program, documenting all actions taken pertaining to outreach and continuous recruiting, and ensuring the classrooms are fully enrolled at all times.
  • Accurately enter data into the ChildPlus record-keeping system.
  • Assist families in enrolling in a system of ongoing health care, required screenings, exams, necessary referrals, and follow-ups, and be a referral source for parents.
  • Complete Home Visits and Parent/Teacher Conferences with each family.
  • Complete Family Partnership Agreement for each family and assist with goal setting.
  • Facilitate parent engagement activities and parent committees according to program requirements 
  • Maintain and organize accurate family records.
  • Assist in the classroom as needed.
  • Bilingual staff must be able to appropriately translate and interpret verbal and written communication.
  • Maintain confidentiality of program participants and follow Program and Agency standards and policies.

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Minimum Associate Degree in Psychology, Human Services, or related studies

  • Must have at least one year of professional training and/or one year of direct experience in the field of social services.

  • Must have proficiency in the English Language. Bilingual Skills are a plus

  • Must have knowledge of community resources and the skills to link families with appropriate agencies and services.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and organizational skills

  • Working knowledge of Head Start is a plus

  • Must be proficient in the use of Computer Applications.

  • Must have awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural issues and local community practices.

 

Salary Range: $32,568.85-$36,976.50
