Job Description:
The accounting manager reports to the Controller, manages several accounting staff and the day-to-day cash management of the agency. The accounting manager also ensures compliance with Federal, State, City, Grantor and other requirements.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Massive knowledge experience with the Month End Close process including journal entries, reconciliation and financial statement maintenance.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of goals, policies and priorities.
  • Supervise and participate in the preparation of various financial statements.
  • Interface and coordinate internal audit and external audit including preparing financial statements involving review of accounting records.
  • Establish system controls for new financial systems and develops procedures.
  • Review departmental accounting data, identifies and corrects errors, identifies and computes accruals, applies accounting principles to transactions and recommends procedures to ensure conformance with applicable contracts, policies and GAAP.
  • Designs internal control systems for all departments to ensure the safeguarding of the agency assets.
  • Files reports necessary to comply with Federal, State and Local regulations for audits of recipients of government grants.
  • Perform cash management and monitor balances, track usage, prepare forecasts, etc.
  • Act as system administrator managing accounts, project numbers, permissions, invoicing and receivables.
  • Perform other accounting functions as deem necessary.
     

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree with Public Practice experience preferred.
  • Six or more years of successful experience in supervising accounting staff in non-profit or fundraising organizations.
  • Knowledge of recent Generally Accepted Accounting Principle (GAAP) pronouncements and Government Office Accounting Standard (GOAS) as they pertain to non-profit accounting for federal and private contributions.
  • Thorough knowledge of audit requirements under OMB A-133 and A-122 cost principle.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and train accounting staff.
  • Exercise discretion with highly confidential information.
  • Must be highly detail oriented, organized and able to work in a fast paced environment.

Salary: $85,000-$89,000 Annually
