The Police Athletic League (PAL) is the largest independent youth organization in New York City that provides educational and recreational activities for children and young adults. PAL Inc. and The New York City Police Department work in partnership to provide communities with summer and after-school recreational and educational activities.

We are looking for a seasonal part-time SYEP Intake Coordinator who will be responsible for collecting, reviewing, and assisting participants with the completion of the SYEP application. Intake Coordinators will be responsible for the pre-monitoring of all prospective worksites and completing all necessary pre-monitoring reports. You will act as a liaison between PAL’s Youth Employment Department and the worksites Supervisor. The Intake Coordinators will assist in the SYEP Enrollment process. Intake Coordinators will assist with completing SYEP documents, maintaining participants' folders and contact participants regard program requirements. Travel is within the 5 boroughs is mandatory. 

These positions are available for the period of March through June. (Up to 35 hours per week)

The position is available at the Youth Employment  Department- Edward Byrne Center - Queens

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Will be responsible for reviewing and assisting participants with the completion of the SYEP application.
  • Will be responsible for the in-person pre-monitoring/assessment of prospective worksites and completing all necessary pre-monitoring reports.
  • Act as a liaison between PAL’s Youth Employment Department and the worksite Supervisor
  • Assist in the enrollment process
  • Assist with the worksite development process as need
  • Assist with completing SYEP documents, maintaining participants' folders, and other duties as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Must have knowledge of virtual platforms.
  • Some college coursework at an accredited college or university.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience working in an office environment, with prior data entry experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google.
  • Ability to work independently and in a group.

Hours:  Between 10AM to 6PM. Candidates field hours will be determined by appointments.

Pay rate: $19.00 an Hour

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in college as a sophomore, junior or senior, A.A, or A.S. degree preferred
  • Extreme attention to detail and strong multi-tasker
  • Ability to make deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with the target population
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Effective Conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to navigate the New York City transportation systems (ability to travel from borough to borough)
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse youth population-in-person and sometimes in a virtual setting
  • Proficient in use of excel, MS Word, and other computer software applications
