Position: Regional Director

Who we are:  The Police Athletic League (PAL) of New York City is an independent youth development nonprofit organization and has been a vibrant and vital institution, serving as an effective, critical bridge between police and communities across all five boroughs of the City since 1914. PAL operates diverse programs for children as young as 2 years old to young adults. Programs include Head Start, after-school programs and summer day camps for elementary, middle and high school youth, and summer Playstreets. PAL also runs evening teen centers and college readiness programs, youth employment, and juvenile justice programs. Staying true to PAL’s roots, a cornerstone of our youth development strategy includes offering competitive and recreational sports for children of all ages.  At PAL, we’re devoted to empowering communities and building the best places to work, and that goes for our own teams too. 

Position Summary: 

We are looking for a Brooklyn & Queens Regional Director who will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for PAL sites in the assigned borough. Responsible for supervising all programmatic and administrative aspects of assigned sites. The Regional Director ensures that assigned sites are operated in accordance with the mission, values, and policies of the Police Athletic League.

The Regional Director will report to the Director of Programs 

 

What you’ll do:  

  • The Regional Director, in conjunction with the Center Director, develops an annual action plan and establishes performance objectives for the community center.
  • The Regional Director, in conjunction with the Center Director, plans and coordinates various citywide programs, activities, and special events.
  • The Regional Director will personally conduct weekly site observations for all centers located within the assigned Regional.
  • The Regional Director serves as a liaison between the community center and PAL support services i.e. MIS, Facilities, Fiscal, and Development.
  • The Regional Director will assess center programs and activities to ensure services are delivered in a manner that is consistent with the organization’s mission and philosophical approach toward programming.
  • The Regional Director assists Center Director in the area of program development, program implementation, and program evaluation.
  • The Regional Director (as assigned) will serve as chairperson, coordinator, or member of various sub-committees.
  • In conjunction with Center Director and senior PAL staff the Regional Director will plan and coordinate public relations efforts and activities that serve to promote PAL.
  • In conjunction with the Center Director, the Regional Director will plan, coordinate, and execute training and development activities for center employees.
  • The Regional Director will ensure that community centers are in compliance with all PAL human resources policies and procedures.
  • In conjunction with the Center Director and Director of Human Resources, the Regional Director will recruit, interview, and approve the hiring of all center employees.
  • The Regional Director will ensure that each center is compliant with all PAL fiscal policies and procedures.
  • The Regional Director will be responsible for preparing annual center budgets.
  • The Regional Director will ensure that the centers are in compliance with all contractual obligations and mandates.

 

Qualifications

Who you are/What you bring:  

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of seven years of work experience in a human service agency that includes management and supervision experience, with at least five years in a leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated skills in program planning, program implementation, and program evaluation.
  • The ability to supervise multiple sites throughout the city.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to support fund development efforts which includes proposal writing and contract renewal procedures.
  • Ability to develop community partnerships and foster existing relationships with community residents, community-based organizations, and government entities.

 

Compensation: 70K-80K
