Direct Service

The MAAP Social Worker is responsible for conducting psycho-social intake and clinical assessments for all referred subject youth and matching youth to MAAP mentors. The MAAP Social Worker is responsible for conducting regular home visits and full clinical assessments for subject youth, all minors and adults in the household. The MAAP Social Worker provides casework counseling and crisis intervention for subject child and family. He/she is responsible for researching and providing appropriate referrals for ongoing supportive services.

Supervision

Along with the MAAP Program Supervisor, he/she is responsible for overseeing the development and execution of all participant individualized goals plans. He/she will guide and support Mentors as it relates to crisis intervention and/or clinical issues that arise during the life of the case.

 

Administrative

The MAAP Social Worker is responsible for data entry in ACS and OCFS databases. He/she is responsible for ongoing clinical case notes and monthly comprehensive Family Assessment Service Plans (FASP).

Major Duties & Responsibilities 

    1. Develop strong rapport with all youth and families based on a strengths-based and trauma- informed perspective.
    2. Responsible for contacting all youth and families within 24 hours of referral from ACS. Must conduct psycho-social intake within 48 hours of referral.
    3. Conduct initial psycho-social intake (FASP and 2921) and clinical assessments.
    4. Conduct monthly (or more if needed) home visit assessments to assess for safety and risk in accordance with ACS preventive guidelines standards for subject child and all minors.
    5. Work with families to remedy any issues that arise during home assessment.
    6. Work closely with collateral service providers (i.e. education/schools, medical, mental health, juvenile/criminal justice).
    7. Responsible for entering ongoing data in both ACS and OCFS databases.
    8. Develop and maintain relationships with potential partnering agencies.
    9. Flexible hours to include some evenings.
    10. Provide coverage for other direct service staff as needed.
    11. Travel on public transportation throughout NYC required for staff meetings, trainings and service delivery.
    12. Model and uphold ALL agency rules.

Qualifications

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  1. An MSW degree from an accredited college or university required. LMSW preferred.
  2. A minimum of six years experience in youth work and/or youth counseling.
  3. Previous experience with ACS Preventive services highly preferred
  4. Demonstrated skills and competency in youth development.
  5. Demonstrated ability to relate and engage high risk, inner city adolescents using both strength based and trauma informed perspectives.
  6. Comfort delivering services independently in families’ homes and high risk communities.
  7. Understanding of conflict resolution, mediation, mentoring concepts as well as strength based and trauma informed perspectives.
  8. Good communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to speak professionally to staff, parents, case collaterals and program partners.
  9. Spanish speaking a plus (not required).

To be effective in their role, Social Workers must have strong relational and technical skills. While the ability to form relationships is at the core of this work, Social Workers also need to have strong organizational, time management, and technical skills to help young people on their journey and navigate NYC’s systems and resources.

  9. Able to remain calm during moments of tension and stress.

TECHNICAL & PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:

  1. Strong time-management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  2. Ability to troubleshoot, advocate, and navigate obstacles where there is not always a clear-cut pathway.
  3. Open to learning how to use and interpret data to inform decision- making.
  4. Ability to collaborate in team settings and build relationships with external partners.
  5. Ability to use trauma-informed techniques.
  6. Flexible and can work independently.

COVER LETTER IS REQUIRED

Salary: $65,000-$70,000
