The Assistant Coach – Casual is responsible for assisting the coaching staff in coaching/mentoring student-athletes technically and tactically on the field/court/etc., as well as, guiding them through academic achievement and personal development. The assistant coach (casual) is also responsible for helping with recruiting and retaining student-athletes and the day-to-day practice regimen. The Assistant Coach reports to Head Coach of the sport assigned and/or other designated coach. This is a stipend position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Coaching/mentoring:
- Assists the head coach to communicate goals, expectations, and accountability to help maintain high standard of performance, ethics, and sportsmanship on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.
- Create a relationship built on the sincere interest in each student-athletes’ academic, athletic, and personal pursuits.
- Collaborate with other college staff when/if necessary.
- Assists with the process to plan, organize and facilitate individual and team training and competition.
- Study and implement strategy and skills needed to prepare for competition.
- Learn, know, and abide by official rules and regulations.
- Lead in a way that positively reflects the mission and vision of the institution.
- Adhere to rules, guidelines and principles set forth by the applicable division/conference.
- Assists the head coach and staff to plan, communicate, create, and model the same expectations as the head coach.
Recruiting:
- Assist in developing a strategic plan to identify and evaluate talent that would be a good fit for Walsh University.
- Create relationships with prospective student-athletes, their families, clubs, and high school coaches.
- Assist in building and maintaining prospect databases through recruiting events and camps/clinics.
- Organize and work collaboratively with admissions to bring quality student-athletes on campus in partnership with the coaching staff.
- Reach/Manage enrollment numbers as assigned.
Other duties:
- Establish and maintain an alumni relationship.
- Be creative and willing to fundraise to support operating budget.
- Other duties as assigned or required.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Must understand and support the Mission, Vision and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University, as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and possess the following:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred/encouraged.
Work Experience:
At least 1-3 year’s coaching experience at the collegiate level or other significant experience relative to coaching and/or the administration of an intercollegiate athletics program.
Skills and abilities:
- Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff and faculty. Positive attitude a must.
- First Aid, CPR, AED certification required.
