Description

Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install heating and air conditioning systems and equipment throughout the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC systems in district facilities. 

Monday-Friday 7AM-4PM

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

Maintenance and Repair

  • Assist in diagnosing and repairing issues in various heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.

  • Support the installation of new HVAC systems and components; help with relocating or expanding existing systems as needed.

  • Perform preventive maintenance, including filter changes and cleaning of condensers and coils.

  • Receive, prioritize, and complete assigned work orders in a timely manner.

  • Respond to HVAC-related emergency service calls as needed.

  • Troubleshoot and maintain HVAC equipment to ensure optimal performance.

  • Develop and apply strong problem-solving skills in field work.

  • Receive guidance and on-the-job training from senior HVAC technicians.

  • Use hand tools and power tools to install, service, and repair HVAC systems.

  • Work with electrical systems involved in HVAC installation and maintenance.

  • Safely operate tools and equipment necessary for HVAC tasks.

  • Perform minor repairs in plumbing, carpentry, and electrical systems as required.

  • Assist with basic building maintenance and general facility upkeep.

Safety

  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure they remain in safe operating condition.

  • Follow all established safety protocols and procedures when performing job duties, including proper lifting techniques and safe climbing practices.

  • Operate tools and equipment in accordance with approved safety guidelines.

  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions in the work area. Report any safety hazards that cannot be immediately resolved to the supervisor without delay.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
  • HVAC certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.

Experience:

  • Six months in the HVAC field

Tools/Equipment Used: Electrical measuring and testing equipment; welding equipment; hand tools; power tools; hoist; light truck or van

Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) daily

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; may work on rooftops; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; may work irregular and prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
