Description

As a Care Coordinator, you will have an opportunity to address the most pressing health and wellness needs in Native American communities. Through telehealth counseling services and crisis support, you will serve Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) school staff, students, and families. As part of our ambitious and passionate team supporting the BIE Behavioral Health and Wellness Program (BHWP), you will have a lasting impact on the mental health and wellness of Native American students.

The BIE BHWP provides culturally relevant, evidence-based, and trauma-informed behavioral health and wellness services for school staff, students, and families at all Bureau-funded institutions, including Bureau-operated schools, Tribally Controlled Schools, post-secondary institutions, and Tribal colleges and universities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintains a positive working relationship with Bureau of Education (BIE) schools’ administrators, point of contact, staff, and students.
  • Input student’s demographics to initiate services in EHR system.
  • Adhere to patient confidentiality and comply with program policy, state licensure guidelines, and federal regulations under the privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Document communication with point of contact and/or student in EHR system.
  • Ensure that all required signed consents and other documents are properly received.
  • Assign Behavioral Health Specialist in a timely manner.
  • Screen and communicate student and staff safety concerns with Behavioral Health Specialists and crisis response team.
  • Assist with after-care plan to ensure students and staff are receiving supportive services, as needed.
  • Develop and continuously update resources in each state for student and staff support.
  • Participate as an active member of the BIEBHWP Crisis and On-call Team.
  • Participate as a member of counseling team.
  • Attend all required staffing, meetings, and trainings.
  • Must adhere to mandated reporting laws.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Displays strong verbal and written communication.
  • Skilled in prioritizing complex problems quickly and responding appropriately.
  • Able to maintain high level of confidentiality.
  • Dependable and can effectively prioritize tasks.
  • Exhibits excellent organizational, problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Ability to provide on-call and after-hours service as needed.
  • Ability to travel on short notice to provide on-site crisis support.
  • Will be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Must be able to obtain and maintain a background clearance.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social science or closely related field, or a combination of education and experience; Master’s degree highly preferred.
  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience, which includes providing mental health and crisis service, coordination, and support.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with the Native American/Alaska Native community highly preferred.
