Objective: To lead the development and implementation of employment policies and practices of the school to create a positive and effective working environment while ensuring compliance with applicable employment laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with senior leadership to understand the school’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
- Build and maintain relationships with employees and all levels of school administration in order to maintain positive employee relations and workplace culture.
- Serve as a consultant to employees and administrators on all employment matters and consult with legal counsel as appropriate.
- Oversee the hiring process and support hiring managers in recruiting, developing and revising job descriptions, posting jobs, scheduling interviews, conducting pre-employment screenings, and onboarding process.
- Develop and conduct orientation and onboarding efforts in collaboration with the Associate Head of School and Division Heads.
- Oversee the substitute list, and manage the substitute hiring process.
- Oversee the human capital management system.
- Review semi-monthly and monthly payroll, and serve as a resource to the staff accountant on payroll processing.
- Manage and administer all benefit programs including negotiating contracts, serving as the point of contact with the broker and third party administrator, communicating benefit plans to candidates and employees, managing open enrollment, processing qualifying events, and reconciling benefit invoices.
- Develop and implement employment policies and practices that align with the school’s culture and maintain the employee handbook.
- Analyze local, regional, and national salary and benefit surveys and data, and develop and recommend strategies for attaining the school’s compensation philosophy.
- Issue offers of employment and compensation adjustments to new and returning faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and recommended best practices including but not limited to the Affordable Care Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and workers’ compensation.
- Collaborate on the design of and administer the administrator and staff performance management program.
- Support and advise managers on discipline issues, prepare disciplinary notices and performance improvement plans, and counsel employees on issues.
- Oversee the annual service awards program, and plan and host the annual retirement party.
- Conduct exit interviews and offboarding process.
- Analyze HR metrics, report to all levels of leadership and benchmarking groups, and make recommendations for change based on trends.
- Manage the HR department budget.
