Description

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for performing chores for elders who can no longer handle such work. This may include yard work, deep cleaning, light maintenance, lifting heavy objects, timely snow removal and grass cutting and other miscellaneous chores.

JOB DUTIES

Responsible to do daily checks for posted work orders and complete requests on a timely basis

  • Responsible to provide complete chore service for elders in the community, but not limited to:
    • Shovel snow from sidewalks, ramps and porches, mailboxes
    • Chop, split, and stack wood
  • Responsible for landscaping:
    • Including mowing, trimming, yard clean up, and clean gutters
  • Responsible for minor home maintenance such as but not limited to:
    • Clean ceiling fan
    • Change light bulbs
    • Wash walls
    • Wash windows (interior & exterior)
    • Arrange, assemble furniture
  • Responsible to report to the Elder Services Director any further investigation and referral needs and conditions which may be hazardous for elders.
  • Responsible to complete accurate vehicle mileage logs, monthly vehicle inspections and other weekly activity reports.
  • Perform and log preventive maintenance on all Equipment and vehicles including other power tools, but not limited to:
    • Check fluids and for parts replacement
    • Wash exterior, vacuum and clean interior
    • Inspect and report needed repairs and inform director of all problems
    • Operate power and hand tools- drills, sockets, hammer, pliers, etc.
    • Wear personal protective gear.
  • Participates in Copper River Native Association and outside meetings and training as required.
  • Assures a safe, non-judgmental environment for the clients and provide services without ethnic or social prejudices.
  • Communicates and comprehends oral and written instructions while maintaining clear and thorough communication with the supervisor on all areas of responsibility listed in this job description.
  • Documents progress and assistance in removing obstacles to set goals.
  • Develops, maintains, and adheres to approved operations manual and staff training manual.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY

  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to Alaska Native culture and lifestyle, with demonstrated experience working effectively with Alaska Native population.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of supportive services and other resources for senior citizens and non-elderly disabled in the area served by the project.
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate, organize, problem-solve and provide results for the elderly and disabled served.
  • Strong written, analytical, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills with sensitivity to lifestyles of targeted participants.
  • Skills in operating personal computer using a variety of computer software.
  • Ability to keep organized, accurate records and produce timely and accurate written reports.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality as required for HIPAA, other regulations and organization matters.
  • Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, including outside contacts.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current CPR/First Aide or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Current Alaska Drivers License, with clean driving record.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The work is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 25 lbs. The majority of work is performed outside or in an elders home. The office is a non-smoking facility with outside smoking areas. May require local travel between compact services of CRNA which may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions. Works in an environment where protection of client confidentiality is essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided where/when needed. The CRNA office is a tobacco free campus; client homes will be treated like it is part of the facility when present in the home on work hours, and may involve use of household products/chemicals.

SPECIFICATIONS

Supervision Received:

Work will be monitored through meetings, reports, and regular communication with the immediate supervisor. General guidelines for operations are based on program requirements, conditions of grant award(s), and the general policies and procedures of CRNA.

Supervision Exercised:

Position will exercise supervision of assigned staff and complete required documentation, including performance evaluations, training, and general oversight through direct reports.

Contacts:

Contacts include and not limited to volunteers, organizational staff, clients, and outside agencies.

CONDITIONS OF HIRE

  • CRNA is a no tolerance workplace. All employees must pass an initial and random drug and alcohol screening to be eligible for and maintain employment.
  • CRNA has several positions which require a criminal background check for the safety of our clients. All employment offers in the "covered" classification are conditional until CRNA has received a Federal criminal background check verifying eligibility to work in these programs.
  • First Aide/CPR certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire for required positions.
  • As applicable by position and company policy, must meet standards for fitness for duty, immunizations, credentialing and privileging.
