Description

 

This position is responsible for providing professional work in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, injuries, and deformities of the oral cavity and surrounding structures of the head and neck. This position provides leadership, supervision, and direction for the hygienists and dental aides, including responsibility for developing/managing all operational aspects those professionals to achieve excellent customer service, quality, cost control, and delivery performance in line within the CRNA Promise, our goals, and values; provide support and direction to enhance performance, skills, and knowledge of the professional staff.

JOB DUTIES

  • Provides dental practice services to beneficiaries of CRNA, including preventative, restorative, prosthetics, and cosmetic services.
  • Displays a willing and helpful attitude to customers and staff.  Professionally communicates in a warm, concerned, caring, and friendly manner over the telephone and in person;

    Performs a full range of dental services at the Copper River Native Association Dental Clinic, including, but not limited to:
    • Dental and intraoral examination of adults and children, including evaluation of general medical condition, and recognition and diagnosis of pathological or irregular conditions.  The results of such examination, and the risks, benefits and alternatives to proposed treatment are expected to be communicated to the patient and/or guardian in a warm, caring, professional manner that fully informs and allows the patient and/or guardian to provide consent for treatment;
    • Restoration of teeth with restorative materials and/or crowns in accordance with accepted standards;
    • Non-surgical endodontic procedures, including pulpotomy of primary teeth;
    • Diagnosis, design, impression, registration, insertion, and adjustments necessary for the replacement of teeth by full and partial removable dentures, and fixed bridges;
    • Scaling, root planning, and minor periodontal procedures for the treatment of periodontal disease;
    • Surgical procedures, including:  single and multiple tooth extraction; removal of uncomplicated impacted teeth, residual root tips, localized foreign bodies, exostoses, biopsies;
    • Corrective and palliative treatment of abnormal occlusion and acute soft tissue infection;
    • Prescription of drugs and/or devices in accordance with accepted standards of practice;
  • Participates in the training and development of skills of dental assistants;
  • Participates in the activities of committees, or special initiatives as assigned;
  • Participates in the development and delivery of programs to enhance the public awareness of dental health promotion;
  • Participates in the development and implementation of programs designed to maximize recovery of third-party payment;
  • Participates in programs designed to assure regulatory compliance required of Copper River Native Association and the dental clinic;
  • Accesses, reads and responds as necessary to written material and e-mail on a daily basis;
  • Demonstrates discretion in handling confidential information.  Maintains confidentiality of patients and facility related information;
  • Maintains Dental Guidelines by assisting in writing and updating policies and procedures;
  • Being accessible to staff for consultation as needed;
  • Maintain partnership with other dental organizations at local, state, and national level.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • DDS or DMD degree from a dental school accredited by the commission on dental education of the American Dental Association.
  • Current permanent full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Alaska, another state, D.C., the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the U.S.; must obtain Alaska license within one year of employment.
  • Five (5) years previous experience as a practicing dentist.
  • Current BLS certification, or attain within six (6) months of hire.

 

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ten (10) years previous experience as a practicing dentist.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

The work is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 25 lbs. The majority of work is performed in a clinical office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. CRNA is a smoke free and tobacco free campus. May require local travel between compact services of CRNA which may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions. Works in an environment where protection of client confidentiality is essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided when and where needed.

SPECIFICATIONS

Supervision Received:

Work will be monitored through meetings, reports, and regular communication with the immediate supervisor. General guidelines for operations are based on program requirements, conditions of grant award(s), and the general policies and procedures of CRNA. 

Supervision Exercised:

Position will not exercise supervision.

Contacts include and not limited to volunteers, organizational staff, clients, and outside agencies.

CONDITIONS OF HIRE

  • All employment at CRNA is “at will.” This means that the employee or CRNA may terminate employment at any time and for any reason. Unless specified in writing, no term of employment is expressed or implied for this position.
  • CRNA is a no tolerance workplace. All employees must pass an initial and random drug and alcohol screening to be eligible for and maintain employment.
  • CRNA has several positions that require a criminal background check for the safety of our clients. All employment offers in the “covered” classification are conditional until CRNA has received a Federal criminal background check verifying eligibility to work in these programs.
  • First Aid/CPR certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire for required positions.
  • As applicable by position and company policy, must meet standards for fitness for duty, immunizations, credentialing and privileging.
