General Purpose
To plan, organize and implement an appropriate Reading program in a technology based learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Teach and enhance reading skills to (MS)2 students on various learning levels.
- Prepare and deliver weekly Reading lesson plans incorporating math, science and technology.
- Provide expert instruction, assessments, and leadership for (MS)2 reading program.
- Assess the reading strengths and needs of (MS)2 students and provide findings to teachers, parents, and paraprofessionals as needed.
- Support, supplement and extend classroom teachings by working collaboratively with parents and teachers to implement a research-based reading program that meets the needs of all (MS)2 students.
- Set-up and monitor classroom testing environment to administer tri-annual North Western Evaluation Association (NWEA) and annual District of Columbia CAPE assessment.
- Implement the technology and software in instruction
- Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs and development.
- Monitor individual students progress and provide appropriate feedback regularly to students, parents and (MS)2 administration regarding student progress needs.
- Prepare required reports on students and activities.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in accordance with the guidelines of the (MS)2 Student Handbook and apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary.
- Participate in department, school and parent meetings and/or conferences.
- “Thumb Scan” in and out daily to maintain an accurate account of attendance.
