SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Graphic Designer will be responsible for the planning, design, development, and support of a variety of the Chamber’s artistic, publication, and graphic needs, primarily through print and some electronic media. Will also assist in writing, filming, and editing video content. The Graphic Designer uses extensive discretion and independent judgement as well as a consultative approach to managing the role’s primary duties and responsibilities.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITES & FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for the layout, format, creation, design and production for in-house and event logos, advertising, forms, flyers, posters, invitations, promotional items, informational pamphlets, in-house publications such as the Grand Strander newsletter, and various other chamber print media.
  • Responsible for the quality and consistency throughout all Chamber printed and digital media to ensure an appropriate representation of the Chamber’s image.
  • Will regularly meet with personnel from within the division to gather input and determine goals. This information will effectively generate creative content while maintaining a theme and appearance consistent with the Chamber’s overall goals and image.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in technology and trends in graphic design to help ensure the Chamber maintains a current image and maximizes creative content in an efficient manner.
  • Regularly reviews comparable work and standards of similar entities to ensure the Chamber’s image is effectively portrayed in all media.
  • Assist with local marketing materials including newspaper ads.
  • Assist with reviewing and creating content for chamber website and digital platforms to include images, photos, and video.
  • Assist with pre-production, filming and editing video content for social media sites and the chamber website.
  • Work with the President & CEO, Vice President of Public Policy, and Communications Manager on resident communications and community relations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Business Development and Business Development Director of Marketing.

 

Qualifications

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree with an accredited college university in Graphic Design, Fine Arts or related area preferred. 
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 4 years’ experience in graphic design is required.
  • Experienced computer skills with design software and technology such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and collectively with others to accomplish creative tasks and requests.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and deliver completed work in a timely manner.
  • A solid understanding of workflows that accompany the creative and printing process.
  • A working knowledge of and/or experience in graphic design, photography, layout and design, and writing.
  • Experience preparing jobs for pre-press offset printing both for four color process and spot color.
  • Familiarity with typography, copy fitting, and standard printing processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Superior verbal/written skills and presentation skills. Good punctuation, spelling, grammar, and attention to detail a must.
  • Demonstrable graphic design skills with a strong portfolio.
  • Photography experience preferred.
  • Must embrace and demonstrate a “Continuous Improvement” approach to problem solving and process enhancement.
  • Must possess and demonstrate a collaborative, team-oriented approach to conducting the operations of the chamber staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting established timelines and schedules in a fast-paced environment.
  • Requires a highly organized and disciplined individual who will ensure timely follow-up with senior staff and employees.
  • Attendance and Dependability: The employee can be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and is seldom absent from work. Employee can be depended upon to complete work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner and is conscientious about assignments.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIORNMENT

  • This job operates in a professional office environment, which routinely uses standard office equipment and associated software including computers, phones, copiers and scanners
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally travel in a motor vehicle as directed for meetings and events in changing climate conditions.
