General Purpose: The Legal and Risk Administrative Specialist primarily performs the necessary functions to support and maintain BHFCU’s policies and procedures pertaining to various areas of legal and risk.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist In-House Counsel by assembling required documentation, data entry, the filing of pleadings with the Court, assisting with research and maintaining files.
- Assist In- House Counsel with general legal matters, risk evaluation, due diligence, and audit assistance, to include the assembly and production of documents for various audits.
- Act as a resource to BHFCU personnel for questions and information regarding the status of legal matters and other areas of Risk.
- Perform the activities and administrative responsibilities of the Legal and Risk Administrative Specialist function.
- Assist In-House Counsel with assembling and analyzing materials across all areas of the Credit Union to assess and identify pertinent risks to BHFCU and its members.
- Maintain/update procedures as directed by In-House Counsel.
- Collaborate with multiple departments under the direction of the In-House Counsel on various topics relevant to the Credit Union including, but not limited to, legal affairs, compliance/regulatory research and assembly of information as needed, vendor management, enterprise risk management, potential new product offerings, industry approaches/best practices, as well as writings, drafting and transcription of various legal, compliance and operational correspondence and other documents.
- Act as the back-up to the Vendor Management/Enterprise Risk Administrator for the on-going monitoring and routine maintenance of the Vendor Management program and Enterprise Risk Management.
- Assist with the maintenance of the Credit Union’s Third-Party Risk Management platform.
- Assist with the maintenance of BHFCU's Record Retention Schedule.
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and management.
- Keep abreast of legal and risk trends and changes in the financial services industry by reading pertinent materials, attending webinars, joining forums, etc.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Risk Officer or In-house Counsel.
- Must be able to work in a highly confidential environment.
Job Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of laws and regulations related to the credit union.
- Working knowledge of organization's policies/procedures and credit union's service philosophy.
- Working knowledge of the credit union's in-house computer system and internet.
- Basic understanding of legal research, legal terminology, and judicial system helpful.

Job Qualifications (Education/Experience):
Education: Job requires a two-year college level or equivalent of communication (verbal and written), math and reasoning skills. Formal training should be supplemented with continuing education.
- 2 years of experience in a financial institution or legal field preferred.
- Basic understanding of legal principals, risk management principles and regulatory compliance.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internal systems.

Work Environment/Physical Activities
Occasional travel to one of BHFCU’s branch locations or attendance at community events may be required.
Physical Requirements
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 5 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must by capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise.
Mental and/or Emotional Requirements
Must be able to perform job functions with supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations with extreme accuracy. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines/requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on confidential matters.
