The University of Lynchburg, a private regional university, located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia is seeking a full-time Catering and Events Supervisor to join our Dining Services team.

Job Type: Full-Time, Benefits Eligible

Job Purpose: Responsible for ensuring a positive experience for students, faculty, staff, and guests of the University for catered events and student dining operations.

 

Specific Job Duties:

  • Reviews Banquet Event Orders (BEO’s) at the beginning of each week after they are generated by the Catering Manager.
  • Handles all pull sheets on a daily basis, along with presetting for upcoming events.
  • Independently handles the set-up, execution, and breakdown of smaller deliveries and events.
  • Maintains an updated inventory on all alcoholic beverages on a bi-weekly basis, or as needed by the Catering Manager
  • Handles alcohol pull sheets and pulls for special events, and ensures alcohol is put away properly immediately following each event.
  • Reviews the University’s calendar system to plan set-ups and presets ahead of time.
  • Oversees the maintenance of the room reservations calendar for dining facilities (Burton Room, Burton Foyer, East Room, Main Dining Room, West Room, Koudelka Balcony, Drysdale Third Floor Commons, Veterans Lounge, and Third Floor Tabling).
  • Oversees and assists with the set-up, delivery, service and breakdown of catered and special events. Assists with theme meals for student dining, as needed.
  • Trains all new students and on-call employees on their job responsibilities and duties. Performs an evaluation after 30 days regarding employee performance.
  • Performs ongoing communication with all students and on-call staff to ensure that they are punctual, productive, dressed properly, and confident about what is expected of them. Ensures wait staff complies with appropriate dress code and uniform standards for all events.
  • Schedules students and professional wait staff for the appropriate level of staff needed for banquets and catering events. Schedules are distributed on a weekly basis.
  • Performs pre-event meetings before all catered functions to ensure wait staff know menu items and specific job assignments.
  • Communicates with kitchen staff in advance regarding timing of catering for events.
  • Ensures wait staff is in compliance with appropriate dress code and uniform standards for all events.
  • Responsible for recruiting student-catering staff.
  • Generate and enforce a closing checklist for catering staff to follow when concluding an event.
  • Maintains the highest level of sanitation in all areas of dining services. This is to include, but not limited to, all dining rooms, storage cabinets, and storage closets.
  • Ensures that the catering room, West Room catering kitchen, and all catering equipment are kept clean and organized at all times.
  • Works a combination of days, nights, and weekends, as required by the schedule of events.
  • Assists in other areas of dining services as required. This includes the Dining Hall register, servery, and kitchen operations.
  • Preforms any other duties as required by the Dining Services Department.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a supervisory service position in either a fine dining or commercial

restaurant operation. Must possess considerable knowledge of cafeteria, American and French serving standards.
