COPY DESK CHIEF
Distinguishing features of the job:
The Copy Desk Chief oversees the copy editing process of the university campus newspaper. This role involves managing the copy desk team, ensuring the accuracy and quality of all written content, and upholding the publication's editorial standards. The Copy Desk Chief plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and consistency of the newspaper's voice. Key aspects of the job include fact-checking articles and writing stories as needed by the editor-in-chief. This position is allowed to work up to 10 hours a week.
Responsibilities and duties:
The copy editor must:

Present a professional attitude and appearance to the public, understanding that the position will be viewed by the public as representative of The Critograph;

Write at least one news story per week;

Edit copy to meet requirements in The Critograph Style Manual and the AP Stylebook;

Correct spelling and grammatical errors in copy;

Ensure that names are spelled correctly by using available resources or checking with the desk editor or staff writer;

Eliminate spelling, grammatical, and/or other errors in headlines and cutlines;

Ensure headlines and cutlines follow guidelines set in The Critograph Style Manual;

Note any questions or comments about the copy for the desk editor and managing editor;

Attend editorial meetings as required;

Be accountable to the editor-in-chief.
