SUMMARY:

The Property Claims Representative is responsible for handling commercial property claims for Property Casualty Alliance of Texas (PCAT) members, providing excellent customer service, and exercising good judgment, based on established procedures and best claims practices, following statutory, regulatory, and ethics requirements. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct detailed investigations into loss to buildings or property to verify claim validity; engage experts (if needed); perform inspections of damaged property or sites
  • Assess the extent of damage or loss related to the claim; determine policy coverage and applicability
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all claim activities; accurately and effectively document the claim with all pertinent activity and rationale for decisions made and actions taken; prepare necessary reports and documentation for claim files
  • Work with experts, third-party service providers, PCAT members, and other parties to establish an agreed scope and cost of loss
  • Effectively communicate with members regarding the status of their claims; coordinate with other departments or third-party service providers, as needed
  • Ensure all claims processes comply with regulatory requirements and company policies
  • Provide excellent and professional customer service to all PCAT members; assist members with understanding the claims process and insurance terms
  • Approve or deny claims based on findings; facilitate prompt and fair settlements
  • Effectively manage the financial transactions associated with the claim including, but not limited to, reserves, payments, and reinsurance recoveries
  • Review all activities relating to the public, members, and companies to avoid issues involving potential errors and omissions
  • Participate in seminars and other training to maintain required licenses and for knowledge and skill development

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to effectively analyze claims exposure to determine the proper course of action
  • Thorough knowledge of the commercial property reinsurance process
  • Ability to effectively interpret and correctly apply commercial property coverage forms
  • Strong working knowledge of property estimating tools and techniques
  • Ability to understand and effectively interpret reports from engineers and other commercial property loss experts
  • Strong computer skills, with a focus on the Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.) with an understanding of automated management systems
  • Excellent organizational skills, demonstrating attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced, changing priority environment
  • Self-motivated, with the initiative to prioritize and be self-directed
  • Regular and punctual attendance is required
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally, and in writing,
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both colleagues and managers, across all levels
  • Ability to promote, and maintain a team environment, willing to find accommodating solutions for our members and the company
  • Ability to successfully adhere to company policies and procedures, as well as maintain strict confidentiality

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5–7 Years previous commercial large loss property adjustment experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline preferred
  • Possession of a current Texas Adjuster License, or an All-Lines Adjuster License required

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS:

  • Fast-paced, multi-tasking, office environment with periodic high disruption and changing priorities
  • Ability to perform approximately 80% sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and negligible force frequently
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally
  • Requires operation of a computer workstation, including keyboard and video display
  • All requirements may be modified to reasonably accommodate physical or mental impairment
