This position is for a Quality Assurance Technician role for one of our production facilities. The Quality Assurance Technician position is a key position that spans responsibility for testing and insuring the quality and safety of raw materials and finished products during the pre-operational and operational processes of food production in our facilities. This position is responsible for participating in the SQF, HACCP and FSMA Food Safety Systems including pre-requisite programs and audits, (internal and external) to measure compliance with QA and Food Safety and Quality Standards and Regulations.  

Essential Functions:

  • Primary focus is to observe the production line and monitor operations for compliance with policies and procedures of QA and Food Safety including, but not limited to, Allergen Control, GMP, SOP, SSOP, HACCP, Environmental Sampling, and Pest Control.
  • Responsible for compliance to product specifications and food safety requirements (product formulation, weights, bake quality, packaging, proper label application, allergen control, etc.).
  • Provide necessary support to operations to ensure consistency and maintenance of high-quality products as well as proper food safety and safety performance. 
  • Communicates closely and effectively with the Quality and Food Safety Manager, Production, Purchasing and R&D regarding acceptance, rejection and disposition of raw materials and finished products.
  • Participate in regulatory and company pre-requisite programs and audits (both internal and third party) to support company and customer QA programs.
  • Performs sensory evaluation and analysis of raw material samples, finished goods samples and retention samples. 
  • Assists with the Sanitation Program by monitoring the hygienic status of the production facility and communicating needs with sanitation staff. 
  • Works closely with third party laboratories to ensure satisfactory completion of testing, as needed. 
  • Develop and implement other key Food Safety and Quality initiatives as identified by department and/or company leadership.

  • Knowledge of food product development and processes, food safety and allergens.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Required Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or Technology, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or related field is preferred.
  • 5 years’ experience in food manufacturing setting.
  • Knowledge of SQF, HACCP, and FDA food regulations and documentation requirements is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Bending, reaching, twisting, and stooping.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Will have exposure to gluten, peanuts, and tree nuts.
