Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer with expertise in building, optimizing, and operationalizing data pipelines to support key data and analytics initiatives. This individual will play a pivotal role in designing and maintaining our data infrastructure, with a strong focus on dimensional modeling (Kimball methodology) and SQL proficiency. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams, ranging from front line staff to data analysts to executives, to deliver curated, high-quality data for analytics and decision-making.
In addition to technical excellence, the Data Engineer will contribute to the organization’s strategic goals, and mentor teammates in development best practices for SQL, Data Modeling, and ETL. This role demands a mix of creativity, collaboration, and technical expertise to enable robust data solutions within our Informatics team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, optimize, and automate data pipelines, with a focus on the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
- Implement Kimball dimensional modeling techniques to create conformed dimensions and a variety of fact tables (transactional, snapshot, fact less).
- Collaborate with the Informatics team to enhance and optimize EDW to support data science and analytics initiatives.
- Utilize proven architecture and automation techniques for repeatable data preparation and integration tasks.
- Mentor teammates on best practices for SQL development and ETL processes, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Train team members on data pipelining and preparation techniques to facilitate integration and consumption of curated data.
- Support ad hoc analytics by producing datasets and simple tools for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Document and implement robust testing methodologies to ensure system reliability and performance.
- Stay current on industry trends by participating in educational programs, reading relevant literature, attending workshops, and collaborating with colleagues.
- Uphold team goals by contributing to meetings, maintaining departmental facilities, and adhering to organizational standards.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
Compliance with Regulations:
Work closely with all departments necessary to ensure that the processes, programs, and services are accomplished in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with CHG policies and procedures and in compliance with applicable state and federal regulations, including the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of ETL experience, with a focus on data pipeline development and optimization.
- Proven expertise in advanced SQL programming and query optimization in SQL Server or other RDBMS.
- Strong understanding of dimensional modeling (Kimball methodology) and ETL processes.
- Experience in developing database specifications, test plans, and system documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Snowflake and Matillion (or similar tools).
- Familiarity with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Tableau, Power BI, and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with integrating AI tools like ChatGPT into existing documents and databases.
- Experience with data science or machine learning workflows.
- Background in healthcare analytics is a significant plus.
