Position Overview:

This position is classified as a 10-month full-time at-will employment appointment with administrative (30%) and coaching (teaching) (70%) responsibilities. This position is eligible to accrue sick leave at a rate of 10 hours each month but will not accrue vacation leave. The coach will provide daily instruction to student-athletes to increase their knowledge and understanding of the sport. Provide strategic direction, leadership, and motivation to prepare student-athletes for intercollegiate competition. Plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions. Educate and enforce safety rules and regulations. Plan and direct physical conditioning programs that will enable athletes to achieve maximum performance. Educate individuals or groups in rules, strategies, techniques, and principles relevant to their particular sport. Evaluate athletes' skill levels and review performance records to determine their fitness and potential in a particular area of athletics. Keep abreast of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to their sport. Ensure compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations for their respective sports program.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Will assist in maintaining and updating the special team's playbook. Will implement phases of defensive game plan with specific regard to cornerback position. Must have the ability to organize and lead others within the scope of a football program. Assists with recruiting academically successful and highly skilled student-athletes. Assists the Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator in running team practices. Assists with in-season and out-of-season player development. Assists with monitoring the academic progress of students/athletes. Remains informed on all student athletes' academic progress. Gives routine assessment and feedback to participants regarding their performance. Cooperates with media, civic organizations, and campus departments to promote their sport, as well as the entire athletic department as assigned by the Head Football Coach. Works closely with NCAA Athletic Compliance staff to ensure adherence to all applicable NCAA, Conference, and University regulations. Performs other duties as assigned. Will coordinate all things equipment room related. Inventory equipment, pass out necessary items, coordinate laundry schedule, forecast inventory needs, keep a clean working environment, create work-study timesheets, create a calendar for reconditioning and maintaining equipment.

Qualifications/Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts of collegiate sports programs. Minimum of two years coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level. Requires the application of expertise in the sport to achieve results. Coaching experience with leading planning, including program development and innovation, program prioritization, and assessment.

Post-hire: Must pass NCAA certification recruiting test within 30 days of beginning employment date.

Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and be able to operate a typical motor vehicle.

Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification must be provided.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred:

The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching, instructing, and coaching, preferably at the collegiate level. Master’s degree and 2+ years of experience coaching at the collegiate level preferred. Demonstrated successful experience in football management.

Must meet physical demands of the position which include extensive football activities and working in a noisy environment. Ability to work in an environment where the education, welfare, and graduation of student-athletes receive primary emphasis.
