Job Title:        Human Resources Generalist

Job Function & Purpose:  Administrative and support function to the Director of Human Resources.  As the HR Generalist, you will be a front-line support to internal and external customers and employees. You will be expected to provide excellent service while acting as a conduit for information to management, staff and potential applicants.  

  • Qualifications –
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferably with a concentration in Human Resources, Communications, or Business Administration.
    • 2+ years’ experience actively competing work in a human resources department or office setting where all the human resource functions are executed:
      • HR Management
      • Talent Management
      • Compensation/Payroll/Time Management
      • Benefits Management
      • Worker’s Compensation Management
      • Training and Development
    • The ideal candidate would be SHRM/HRCI certified.
    • The ideal candidate would have exposure to recruitment processes, onboarding, employee electronic file maintenance and experience with creating, updating, and/or implementing policies for an organization.
    • Knowledge of performance management, employee relations, and safety practices with the ability to apply this information in a manner that is compliant with relevant CA employment law.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Strategic thinker
    • Must be able to submit and pass a criminal background check.
    • Must have a valid CA Driver’s License.
    • Must be able to work under strict confidentiality.
    • Must have consistent and reliable attendance.
  • Working Conditions   Working in an office setting majority of the time, with some travel required to other facilities in the Central Valley of CA. Offices are in an agricultural setting, where service equipment, parts, and heavy operating machinery are housed, sold, and serviced at each site. Must have the ability to handle walk in traffic, phones, and office equipment. May be required to attend career fairs at universities and high schools, professional affiliation meetings, career training locally and out of the area as needed less than 15% of the time. Must be able to lift 20 lbs., or file box on occasion.

Responsibility:  As the Human Resources Generalist, you are responsible to:

  • Communicate effectively with all internal and external customers and employees.
  • Assist with structuring Standard Operating Procedures and rolling out company policies with the Director of Human Resources.
  • Promote and exude professional conduct as a representative of the Garton Family.
  • As the initial point of contact for all hiring, remaining friendly, fair, unbiased, informative, honest, and thorough in communications with potential hires for Garton is essential.  
  • Maintaining compliance and privacy with employee files will be a daily task.
  • Keeping accurate and thorough records is expected.  
  • Coordinating special projects, hiring events and other duties assigned to provide support to the organization.
  • Must be able to provide and maintain confidentiality regarding a variety of areas to include but not limited to: 
    • protected class information
    • hiring decisions
    • payroll related items
    • personal information regarding employees that is otherwise considered confidential by California employee law practices

COMPENSATION – FLSA Standard is NON-EXEMPT

  • Starting Wage:  (Wage Band Depending on education, professional experience, and certifications.)
  • Hourly Schedule: 8AM – 5PM, Standard Monday – Friday/40 hours per week (very occasional weekends pre-arranged as necessary). Overtime may be expected at times, as needed for travel, special projects, or extreme circumstances.
