JOB OVERVIEW:

Are you passionate about early childhood education and eager to make a difference in the lives of children and their families? We are seeking a warm and dedicated Daycare Supervisor to join our vibrant educational community! As the Daycare Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in creating a nurturing and stimulating environment for young learners, aged six weeks to five years. Your leadership will guide a team of passionate educators, ensuring that our educational programs meet the highest standards of quality and creativity. In this fulfilling position, you will oversee the daily operations of the daycare, maintain a safe and engaging environment, and foster supportive relationships with children, parents, and staff alike. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Take the lead on designing program area, purchasing supplies, completing licensing paperwork and implementing program curriculum.
  • Supervises the staff, children, classroom, and all activities.
  • Ensures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Provides direction for the staff and children in the program and implements program curriculum. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities.
  • Provides quality experience for the children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging through purposeful programming.
  • Encourages intergenerational activities, providing the elderly residents of Thornapple Manor with enjoyable, inclusive experiences (when available to do so).
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each staff member and child.
  • Cultivates positive relationships, conducts program evaluations, and maintains effective communication with staff and parents.
  • Maintains program site, equipment, and required program records.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training as required.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Meet one of the following to qualify as an Early Childhood Program Director in the State of Michigan:
    • (a) Bachelor's degree or higher in early childhood education or child development.
    • (b) Bachelor's degree or higher in a child-related field with 18 semester hours in early childhood education or child development and 480 hours of experience.
    • (c) Montessori credential with 18 semester hours in early childhood education or child development and 480 hours of experience.
    • (d) Associate's degree in early childhood education or child development with 18 semester hours in early childhood education or child development and 480 hours of experience.
    • (e) Valid child development associate credential with 18 semester hours in early childhood education or child development and 960 hours of experience.
    • (f) 60 semester hours with 18 semester hours in early childhood education or child development and 1920 hours of experience
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Typical requirements before working directly with the children include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for staff, Mandated Reporter training; Shaken Baby Syndrome; Sudden infant death syndrome; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens; complete a Tuberculosis test and a physical and provide documentation of all.
  • Strong knowledge of childcare programs.
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards, pass the criminal history background and fingerprinting process, and completion of Thornapple Manor program specific certifications or training.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate
  • program activities.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must also meet state requirements for relevant licensures or certifications and have no disciplinary action in effect against professional license.
  • Basic computer skills, including ability to navigate electronic medical records system and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Must possess a positive attitude that cultivates the health and well-being of all.
  • Must be open to collaboration with various departments and personnel. Take accountability of duties assigned.
  • Ensure all communication and actions are done in a respectful manner toward residents, visitors, parents, and fellow coworkers.

  • Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing activity services.
  • Must be able to relay information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

 

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see, hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure the position's requirements are fully met.
  • Must function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting, and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of fifty pounds.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of children during emergency situations.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works in office area(s) and throughout Thornapple Manor campus.
  • Moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, children, family members, personnel, and visitors.
  • Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Subject of callback during emergency conditions (i.e., severe weather. Evacuation, post disaster, etc.)
  • Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
  • Subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
  • Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B virus.
  • May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
