POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Environmental Education Director, Environmental Education Instructors will teach Environmental Education classes, lead team-building activities, perform organization and cleaning tasks, communicate with school leaders and chaperones, and assist in any projects or tasks that better the Environmental Education Program and YMCA of the Rockies.

Instructors receive paid-for certifications including Red Cross CPR/AED and Project Learning Tree (PLT) during two weeks of staff development training along with learning natural history, team building, lesson planning, behavior management, DEI, working with students with disabilities, and much more.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate in Environmental Education training and learn all class and program content provided in training and facilitation materials.
  • Obtain CPR and First Aid certification (provided in training).
  • Attend required abuse risk management training and report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Facilitate 3-hour Environmental courses to 1st-8th grade students, following state and national standards.
  • Facilitate 2-hour evening hike and campfire programs twice a week.
  • Predict, prevent, identify and respond to safety issues including environmental factors such as weather and wildlife.
  • Assist in program development and advancement.
  • Participate in cleaning and setting up dorms for students between 4-8 hrs. a week.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess or be working toward an Associates or Bachelors degree in Education, Science, Environmental Studies, Biology, or similar area of study, or have suitable professional experience.
  • Experience working with Children is required.
  • Must be fluent in speaking English.
  • Must possess CPR certification (provided during training).

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to walk up to eight miles on uneven terrain.
  • Must be comfortable spending up to eight hours outdoors in inclement weather.
