POSITION SUMMARY:

The Adventure Activities Facilitator leads guests, members and YMCA staff on hikes and provides interpretation in and around the YMCA grounds, belays for the climbing wall and provides customer service and administrative support at the Mountain Center info Desk.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Answering guest questions regarding Adventure Activities and programs ran through the Boone Family Mountain Center
  • Setting up and tearing down indoor and outdoor climbing walls
  • Facilitate climbing wall sessions
  • Lead team building sessions on the low ropes course
  • Lead high ropes challenge course sessions, including conducting rescues at height, as needed
  • Answer questions and give guidance and hiking suggestions at hiking desk in Mountain Center
  • Use a computer to assist guests in enrolling for Y Programs
  • Handle cash/credit cards and use a cash register to record deposits for borrowed hiking equipment and merchandise sales
  • All other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have up-to-date certifications in CPR and First Aid (Can be obtained during training)
  • Must be willing to obtain ACCT Level 1 certification, when required
  • Must have a high degree of skill working with people of all ages
  • Must meet acceptable criminal background check standards
  • Must be able to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • Must meet acceptable criminal background check standards.
  • All other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to hike 5 miles per day in remote areas
  • Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds of gear
  • Must be able to converse with people of all backgrounds for up to 4 hours at a time
  • Must be able to squat, stoop, bend and stand for long periods of time
