The Music Teacher is responsible for developing students' interest and appreciation for music and its role in culture and education. The teacher will plan, deliver, and assess music instruction fostering creativity, teamwork, and musical skills in students from Early Childhood (3-year-old program) through fifth grade.
Duties
Instructional Delivery:
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that include singing, instrument playing, music theory, and listening activities.
- Teach various musical genres, styles, and cultural traditions to broaden students’ understanding of music.
- Encourage students to sing, dance, listen, perform, and create while learning to express themselves in unique ways.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to accommodate learning styles and abilities.
- Incorporate other music education methodologies to enhance student learning.
Curriculum Development:
- Design and deliver a music curriculum that aligns with the school's mission.
- Introduce students to basic music concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, and dynamics.
- Prepare students for musical performances and school events.
Classroom Management:
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters respect, collaboration, and self-expression.
- Establish classroom rules and routines to ensure a safe and productive space.
Student Assessment:
- Evaluate students' progress through formative and summative assessments.
- Provide constructive feedback to help students improve their musical skills and understanding.
Extracurricular Activities:
- Lead and organize school musical performances, concerts, and assemblies when needed.
- Support school-wide events and programs with musical contributions when appropriate.
Professional Collaboration:
- Work with classroom teachers and administrators to integrate music into interdisciplinary learning experiences.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and parent-teacher conferences.
Resource Management:
- Maintain and manage musical instruments, equipment, and materials.
- Submit requests for new resources as needed.
